Luis Lopez and LA City Councilwoman Jan Perry
at home of Luis Lopez and Hans Johnson
in Highland Park providing an opportunity for local residents
to meet and hear the Councilwoman's views and to ask her questions
during her campaign for Los Angeles Mayor.
So many questions Ms. Perry stayed for hours patiently answering each one
and demonstrating wisdom knowledge experience and inclusiveness of and
commitment to serving all residents
(turnout from Echo Park, Silverlake, Highland Park, Eagle Rock and NoHo)
Unfortunately for residents and progressive voters, I am now 0 for 2 after
performing volunteer work and providing minimal financial support
for 2 superb candidates whose campaigns succeeded in raising and addressing
substantive issues and offering candidates with integrity openness and progressive views
You can find my refernece to Luis elsewhere in this blog as the 2012 SoCal version of
Harvey Milk, a lifetime of community service, member of planning boards
and organizer of the anti-8 campaign in East LA.  Just like Harvey, Luis lost his race
for our local Assembly District to a candidate whom the establishment and Democratic
machine decided to move into this District and provide him with truckloads of money to
impose him into office as 'our' rep with no concern or consulting with residents;
Jan brought a wide range of experience and involvement in many cultural groups
and would have been the 1st Jewish and female Mayor
Money still rules in political campaigns, many voters are tuned out and/or cynical,
but we rarely win the first time out.  I remain grateful and proud at the opportunity to
be involved in 2 of the most best campaigns ever working for community and civic process
and public service.  In the race for integrity and hard work,
these 2 and all who supported them are the winners.
